Melissa “Mellie” Black
Melissa Black graduated in 2009 with a B.A. in Elementary Education from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL, but her passion for working with kids began long before that. Melissa started doing volunteer work with kids when she was only 11 and has never stopped. Her experience includes being a mother of two teenagers, preschool teacher, camp program director, nanny, Big Sister with the Big Brother/Big Sister program of Franklin County, and volunteer teacher at church throughout the years. Melissa has struggled with her weight most of her life, so she was very excited when she found Justin Killeen and Energia Fitness. She has worked with Justin for two years and is well on her way to reaching her health and fitness goals. During her journey, she has realized that she now wants to help kids and families reach their fitness and health goals as well and is thrilled to be part of the Energia Kids program. email@example.com
Emily will be teaching Friday Family Fitness. Emily is a proud mama of her 19-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter, and adores cooking projects and healthy living, as long as it involves chocolate! She has varied experience teaching groups of children, from being a scout leader to founding a children’s theater group. Emily began training with Justin in early 2012 and went through a considerable transformation, becoming fit, and discovering her love/hate relationship with burpees. She enjoys running local 5k races with her family, and passing on her acquired fitness knowledge. Emily and her daughter Ruby can be found during some Family Fitness classes, teaching together, motivating children and their parents to be active together, and generally having a blast!
Kids Club Information:
Take a class at Energia Fitness or run an errand while your kids participate in supervised exercises and themed activities at 50/50 Fitness. We have a schedule of Kids Club classes so you can get in your workout, while your kids have a blast, learn about healthy eating, and get in a workout of their own.
Different stations and activities are prepared for each age group.
Many parents want to instill the importance of exercise in their children by participating in activities together but aren’t quite sure how to do it or don’t have the resources. Seeing a need for this, we have provided two Family Fitness classes for you and your children to participate in side-by-side. Designed to be challenging enough for adults yet safe and doable for kids, these classes are the perfect ways to develop long-lasting, healthy habits for you and your children.
This class will be a fun mix of calisthenics, TRX suspension training, strength work, cardio, balance, agility and more. We’ll keep you moving for 45 minutes with a variety of full-body combinations and routines the whole family will enjoy. And though families are encouraged to sign up for these classes, individuals are invited to attend as well!
We also host fitness-themed birthday parties for kids!
